Facelifts? What Facelifts?
Millions of pounds were allocated for the facelifting of properties along the roads considered to be the “gateways to Blackburn”. Where is there a more important gateway to the town than Bolton Road at Ewood and how much was spent there? With the access from the M65 and the visiting supporters to Blackburn Rovers, more visitors see this stretch of road than any other in the town. Bolton Road gives them their first (often only) impression
of Blackburn. Ask Cllr. Mohammed Khan, Labour Executive member for Housing at the
time, how much he allocated to facelifting properties in his own ward of Wensley Fold
and how much he allocated to Ewood. We know that 10s of thousands of pounds were
spent on each property renovated along Preston New Road. Now the money’s all gone
and benefited only the chosen few. We do realise that Bolton Road residents in general
had taken better care of their homes than had some but they should not have been
penalised for that. If so much money had not been spent in Cllr. Khan’s ward then some
would have been left for us.
When we’ve paid back Labour’s debt to foreign bankers and are not faced with paying
them interest of £120 million per day then money will again become available. When it
does, who do you want to be deciding where it will be spent in Blackburn? You know
where Labour’s priorities will be. If you want Councillors who will deal with all of the town
fairly and not just benefit the chosen ones then vote Conservative.
